So after a tweet about merging figuring out how to merge multiple docs (with edits) into one. I was asked to share this magical knowledge. It is actually very easy. If you google search how to do this on word it gives you the instructions as to how to do it, but they claim you can only merge two documents. However, I figured out a way to do it with unlimited number of documents.
Step 1: Open the original document. On the "Review" tab click on "compare".
This will open a drop-down menu select 'combine'. This opens a window:
Step 2: In the 'Original document side find and select the original document (I know this seems weird as it is already open but go with it. Then on the 'revised side' select the first document you want to merge into the original. Under the file box there is another box with 'label unmarked changes' in here you can put the name or initials of the editor..up to you. Then click 'OK'.
This should then open a brand new document, labeled 'DocumentXX' If you only have two documents to merge then you are done. But if you have more editors:
Step 3: In this document start again at Step 1 and repeat the process. This time your new document 'DocumentXX' is the original document and the next edited version is your 'revised document'. Completed the rest of Step 2, then repeat step 3 until all editor versions are in a single document.
I did this to create a single document that merged three peoples comments. Each persons comments/edits were in a different colour and when you hover over that colour it tell you who was the editor. SO much easier! I then saved it as the newest version of the document and went through and accepted or rejected the comments as appropriate (example below).
Hope this helps. You're welcome.
