Flash Update!
Phew! It has been 2 years since I last posted. Between multiple deployments (due to Covid), finishing my thesis, and passing my viva. I've barely stopped. So in flash update this is what happened.
Covid-19
It didn't end after the first deployment to ITU. I went back again in the second wave where I also caught the virus (2021). Thankfully I did suffer with long covid or any long term symptoms or changes. Like you all I am learning to live with the recurrent waves and demands on my clinical life with Covid.
My research
Data collection finished in the end of 2021 and some of the results have now been published:
SYMPACT survey results : https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ehf2.13904
SYMPACT interview findings: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/jocn.16484.
You can go to the study website for brief explanations of those papers. I hope to publish a few more papers around my doctoral research. Watch this blog for more updated. Excitingly the survey results were featured in a NIHR ARC blog. My research was recognised by the British Society for Heart Failure and co-awarded an Early investigator award. I wrote about that experience for the BANCC here: https://www.magonlinelibrary.com/doi/abs/10.12968/bjca.2022.0017
My PhD
It is finished! I sat my viva on June 20th and have made the minor corrections suggested by the examiners. I hope to hear soon about those (fingers crossed).
Post-doc life
Welcome to the new era in my clinical academic journey. I was awarded a NIHR ARC Wessex Researcher enhancement award that started near the end of Aug. It has provided me with protected time for the next 6 months to support me along my clinical academic journey. The first thing I've done with it is my second international visit to University of Stavanger. Watch out for the next blog post to learn more about my trip to the ProHealth group.
